Crucifix:

A potenially fatal martial arts hold. Found in jujitsu, wrestling and other grappling arts, this hold involves using the arms and legs to stretch an opponent across one's body, resembling Jesus on the cross. Your body is the cross, and he is Christ. Now, when moving from restraint to finishing the opponent there are several options.

A. Roll the opponent over and break his neck.
B. Elbow and knee the opponent into unconsciousness while continuing the restraint.
C. Attack the collar, choking the opponent with it. This is known as the hell strangle in judo. The japanese name is not coming to mind.

Now, those are only the direct methods. There are also some inderect transitions:

A. Tranistion to armbar.
B. Transiton to back.
C. Pin.

Now, there are also variants:

A. Leg crucifix

This hold supposedly breaks the neck. One restraining leg is moved to the back of the head, and moves across like a guillotine.

B. Reverse crucifix.

Also breaks the neck. More solid than the leg crucifix, easier and failry common.

Now, how does one apply this technique?

A. As a single leg counter.

You trap the inside arm with your own legs, lean over and grab their arms. You then roll back. This is also a fireman's counter.

B. As a turtle buster.

Simply move to the side and apply the hold as stated earlier.

C. As as a double leg counter.

This is where the reverse crucifix comes into play. Underhook both arms, but trap the head underneath your armpit. Roll them over and break the neck.

Anyways, thats about it. Thats science as far as I'm concerned.

You CAN break the arm at the elbow or at the shoulder, but its your neck thats in REAL danger. The bottom pic most clearly illustrates the process, even though he's going for the strangle instead of the neck break. Here's whats done.

The guy in the black pants rolls to the LEFT. That puts the top of the victims head on the ground. He CONTINUES ROLLING. This leave the back of the victims head trapped between the ground and your body. YOU KEEP ROLLING. The idea is that their neck will pop before they get under you. Doesn't ALWAYS work, but if they get under, keep the hold and do it again.

Discordianism has been described as both an elaborate joke disguised as a religion and a religion disguised as an elaborate joke. Some of its followers make the claim that it is "a religion disguised as a joke disguised as a religion." It can be viewed as a simple rejection of reductionism and dualism, even falsifiability — not in concept different from postmodernism or certain trends in the philosophy of mathematics. It has also been described as "Zen for roundeyes," and converges with some of the more absurdist interpretations of the Rinzai school.

Discordianism is said to have been founded in 1959 (or maybe it was 1958) by Greg Hill (also called "Malaclypse the Younger", or "Mal-2") and Kerry Thornley (also called "Omar Khayyam Ravenhurst"). The foundational document of Discordianism is Hill's Principia Discordia, although this book contains many references to an earlier source, The Honest Book of Truth, which was taken by a garbage collector, according to a quotation from The Honest Book of Truth, cited on page 00030 of the Principia.

Although most religions revere the principles of harmony and order in the Universe, Discordianism can be interpreted as a recognition that disharmony and chaos are equally valid aspects of reality. The Principia Discordia often hints that Discordianism was founded as a dialectic antithesis to more popular religions based on order, although the rhetoric throughout the book describes chaos as a much more underlying impulse of the universe. This may have been done with the intention of merely "balancing out" the creative forces of order and disorder, but the focus is certainly on the more disorderly aspects of the world – at times the forces of order are even villified.

The matron deity of Discordianism is Eris, the ancient Greek goddess of discord, with whom the Romans identified their goddess Discordia.


The Original Snub

It seems that Zeus was preparing a wedding banquet for Peleus and Thetis and did not want to invite Eris because of Her reputation as a trouble maker.*
This made Eris angry, and so She fashioned an apple of pure gold** and inscribed upon it KALLISTI ("To The Prettiest One") and on the day of the fete She rolled it into the banquet hall and then left to be alone and joyously partake of a hot dog.
Now, three of the invited goddesses,*** Athena, Hera, and Aphrodite, each immediately claimed it to belong to herself because of the inscription. And they started fighting, and they started throwing punch all over the place and everything.
Finally Zeus calmed things down and declared that an arbitrator must be selected, which was a reasonable suggestion, and all agreed. He sent them to a shepherd of Troy, whose name was Paris because his mother had had a lot of gaul and had married a Frenchman; but each of the sneaky goddesses tried to outwit the others by going early and offering a bribe to Paris.
Athena offered him Heroic War Victories, Hera offered him Great Wealth, and Aphrodite offered him the Most Beautiful Woman on Earth. Being a healthy young Trojan lad, Paris promptly accepted Aphrodite's bribe and she got the apple and he got screwed.
As she had promised, she maneuvered earthly happenings so that Paris could have Helen (The Helen) then living with her husband Menelaus, King of Sparta. Anyway, everyone knows that the Trojan War followed when Sparta demanded their Queen back and that the Trojan War is said to be The First War among men.
And so we suffer because of the Original Snub. And so a Discordian is to partake of No Hot Dog Buns.

The Golden Apple of Discord is thus one of the major symbols associated with Discordianism.

The Curse of Greyface
The Curse of Greyface is one of the most important parts of Discordianism. It features prominently on pages 00042 and 00063 of the Principia Discordia. Counteracting the curse features prominently on pages 00063 and 00074. According to the Principia, Greyface was a man who lived in the year 1166 BC and taught that life is serious and play is sin. The curse is a psychological and spiritual imbalance that results from these beliefs.

The Curse
Greyface encouraged his followers to "Look at all the order around you" (Principia Discordia page 00042) and somehow convinced mankind to agree with his ideas about Serious Order. The Principia notes that it is something of a mystery why Greyface gained so many followers when anyone could have looked at all of the disorder in the world.

"Greyface and his followers took the game of playing at life more seriously than they took life itself and were known even to destroy other living beings whose ways of life differed from their own." (Principia Discordia page 00042)

Order/disorder and constructive/destructive
By accepting that life is a serious, orderly matter, the followers of Greyface end up viewing things as either orderly or disorderly. In this system, order is preferred to disorder at all costs. This preference results in both constructive order and destructive order.

The alternative is to view things as either constructive or destructive. In this system, construction is preferred to destruction. Selecting construction results in both constructive order and constructive disorder.

Counteracting the Curse
"[M]ankind has [...] been suffering from a psychological and spiritual imbalance. Imbalance causes frustration, and frustration causes fear. And fear makes for a bad trip. Man has been on a bad trip for a long time now." (Principia Discordia page 00042)

"The human race will begin solving it's [sic] problems on the day that it ceases taking itself so seriously." (Principia Discordia page 00074)

In addition to the generic advice of culturing your natural love of chaos and playing with Her, the Principia Discordia provides (on page 00064) "The Turkey Curse Revealed by the Apostle Dr. Van Van Mojo" to counteract The Curse of Greyface. The Turkey Curse is designed to counteract destructive order. It derives its name from the fact that the incantation resembles the sounds of a turkey.

Law of Eristic Escalation
The Principia Discordia (page 00046) contains the Law of Eristic Escalation. This law states that Imposition of Order = Escalation of Chaos. This can be read as an argument against zero tolerance and hard security, or just a statement about the world. It can also be seen as a parallel to the second law of thermodynamics from physics.

The word entheogen is a modern term derived from two Ancient Greek words, åíèåïò (entheos) and ãåíåóèáé (genesthai). Entheos means literally "in God", more freely translated "inspired". The Greeks used it as a term of praise for poets and other artists. Genesthai means "to cause to be". So an entheogen is "that which causes (a person) to be in God". The translation "creating the divine within" that is sometimes given is not quite correct -- entheogen implies neither that something is created (as opposed to just perceiving something that is already there) nor that that which is experienced is within the user (as opposed to having independent existence).

In its strictest sense the term refers to a psychoactive substance (most often some plant matter) that occasions enlightening spiritual or mystical experience, within the parameters of a cult, in the original non-pejorative sense of cultus. In a broader sense, the word "entheogen" refers to artificial as well as natural substances that induce alterations of consciousness similar to those documented for ritual ingestion of traditional shamanic inebriants, even if it is used in a secular context.

The fifty two handblocks, also known as the Jailhouse Rock, is often mentioned by the Wu Tang Clan, sometimes referred to as Shaolin hand blocks. The blocks are an infamous style rumored to be found amongst imprisoned blacks in major cities. Supposedy descended from the African martial arts tradition, the 52 hand blocks is an informal style, emphasizing brutal attacks as well as a showy style. There are NOT actually 52 blocks. The name allegedly refers to 52 pick-up and the random style of that "game". The many regional varieties use differing names. 52 hand blocks, Jailhouse Rock, Alto 52 (after Alto prison), gangsta shuffle, gangsta locks, etc.

Whether or not any of that info is in the least bit true, I don't know. That's just what is said. Its also rumored that the hand blocks gave rise to "throwing 'bows" as is seen down south. Anyways, what IS certain is that that is what the Wu Tang are referencing.

Past a stretch of well-groomed lawns, past where Gimghoul Road turns to a winding, gravel drive, an eerie stone castle rises from the woods.

It's surrounded by ivy-covered trees, chained-off entrances and rusty signs warning trespassers to stay away.

Hippol Castle - better known as Gimghoul Castle - is a sprawling, pre-Norman England-style structure at the edge of UNC's campus that has been the source of some of Chapel Hill's greatest legends.

"It's there, and it's a beautiful old building," said Bill Ferris, history professor and associate director of UNC's Center for Study of the American South. "It's a wonderful local legend that inspires us."

The castle was built as a meeting place for the Order of Gimghoul, a still-existing secret society of noted UNC students and alumni.

Construction began in the fall of 1924 and cost about $50,000.

Although the structure is accessible from Gimghoul Road, it remains a mystery, inspiring nearly a century of folklore.

"It's a mystical thing that's been part of the University for about 100 years," said Roland Giduz, a UNC alumnus and Chapel Hill resident who has researched the castle. "It's part of the heritage of the University. It's really more lore than history."

In 1941 the Ford motor company produced an experimental automobile with a plastic body composed of 70% cellulose fibers from hemp. The car body could absorb blows 10 times as great as steel without denting. The car was designed to run on hemp fuel. Because of the ban on both hemp and alcohol the car was never mass produced.
