I watched it and enjoyed it immensely...Ken Burns is a good historian in my book...I was familiar with Jack Johnson as I had written a paper on his relationship with the Chicago Defender during his reign as champion of the world...After watching the show, I surfed around online to find more on Jack Johnson's involvement with freemasonry which I had been unaware of...Anyway I came across what I'm about to link to:

This obviously doesn't reflect my views, but as some peeps up here have defended right-wing, gun-loving honkeys for their research into the NWO, I wanted to show why I don't believe anything that comes out of the mouths of my redneck brethren...Basically my point is that whatever contributions these "Dale Gribbles" have made, they are stil covertly or overtly hostile to anyone different, they hate yet fail to see their hostility...very dangerous dudes in my book...I wrote up a response to their drivel but they booted it off their site...it's below if you're interested:

Response: White entertainers who seem to have mastered the art of restrianed performance...Celine Dion? Elton John? Liberace? Guns n Roses? Toby Keith? The only time restraint should be admired is when people refrain from beating your ass for making such stupid statements. Otherwise art and performance is intended to elicit an EMOTIONAL response from both the artist and audience...how restraining those emotions could lead to better art is beyond any reasonable person
Response: Actually the origins of light skinned blacks dates back to when they arrived here on slave ships and their white captors raped African women to make more slaves...ie Thomas Jefferson and Sally Mays...Jack Johnson may have been loved by the white ladies but he did not single handedly start a revolution of miscegenation in chicago or elsewhere. you say 1/3 of all lynching victims were white? That is bullshit, but even if it were true, the african american population was a minority yet still accounted for 2/3 of all lynching victims...

Response: Dude, Johnson didn't even get the title fight until he was 30 years old...yet he dominated all opposition for the better part of the next 10 years...He was under obligation to make the fights last as many rounds a possible so the film reels would attract large audiences...many times the fights followed scripts like with Stan Ketchum...when Ketchum deviated from the script and knocked Johnson down...Jack knocked out Stan's four front teeth with one punch...Stan the middleweight did not get up...Johnson also fought a defensive style that irritated many white fans looking for an all out brawl...but he was a professional pugilist, not looking to entertain honkeys

In sumnation...before you bitch anymore about how your tax dollars are being used to fund PBS, I tired of my tax dollars going to ignorant bumblefuck states like the ones you live in for farm subsidies, highways and pork barrel projects...California and NY pay more taxes and get less back than any other states yet the big drains on our wallet (YOU) have the gall to complain about educational programming they should be strapped into a chair clockwork orange style and forced to watch. Before any of your cousin fucking relatives go down to the welfare office to pick up their next check that they'll blow on meth and cigs instead of the 4 kids in their filthy single wide...meditate on this you bible thumping freaks:

By his own admission Johnson threw his fight against Willard. Bragged about it ('shielding my eyes from the sun'). I suppose this is an example of refusing to play by the white man's rules. Or maybe he was just making an excuse for his loss. How very black of him.

I tend to appreciate restrained performance. I cringe when blacks step to the mike to belt out yet another massively overdone anthem.

The large number of light-skinned blacks in cities like Chicago can trace their origins to the extensive miscegenation which began in the early 1900s due to the influx of blacks to industrial areas of the north. Blacks had to do a great deal more than simply look at a white woman to be lynched. Perhaps the same things whites, one-third of all lynching 'victims', were lynched for. Rape, murder, kidnapping, etc.

Blacks tend NOT to do well in business or other intellectual endeavors for the simple reason that they are not as gifted in these areas as whites. It has nothing to do with racism.

Your remarks on Johnson are correct. He was deified by the enemies of the West decades after his demise. He had a few fights against much smaller and older opponents. When he finally had to fight someone who was as large, or larger than himself, he had problems
