Just came back from this flick. It follows John Constantine, a chain smoking priest who's condemned to hell, as he battles a demonic takeover of the world. The movie was somewhat enjoyable, but not great.
Constantine, condemned to hell after dying for a couple min in a suicide attempt is basically a hitman for God trying to buy his way back into heaven by killing (er, deporting) demons. In this world, demons and angels wander around inciting chaos, but keeping a low profile. A balance between God and the Devil is maintained, by keeping the pure powers in heaven or hell and disallowing the ones that do roam the earth from killing eachother. However, the balance is threatened blah blah blah. Constantine leaps into action, getting his god-damned ass kicked by the majority of the characters while failing spectacularly to solve the mystery, save the girl, or do a damn thing. No, really. This guy is useless. Plus, Reeves can't act.
The most interesting things about the film are the the visuals and the characters. The special effects and scenery are great and get the job done. The characters are fairly interesting. The most interesting would have to be the angel Gabriel. Of ambiguous gender, purpose and allegience, she (as she is played by a woman) spends her time taunting Constantine and causing trouble. Constantine's fellow priest is also fairly interesting, fighting demons independently, but about as sucessfully, from Constantine.
Overall, I'd give this move a 7 out of 10. Good characters and concepts, but they're wasted on the flimsy plot line.
