Wow...Best comic book movie ever. See it. Its basically three loosely connected stories about the people of sin city vs the oppressive system controlling their lives. The city just oozes decay as the brutal heroes fight against the corrupt leaders in spectacular displays of comic book violence. You don't get the feel of a large scale conflict, but instead of the slow crumbling of the sin city power structure as individuals confront the system with varying degrees of success. Its a harsh, brutal, unforgiving movie and it fucking owns.

Peace,
I'm peeping it tonight. Definately a triple threat when Rodriguez, Frank Miller, and Tarantino get together. Some of the screen shots look almost exactly like the original Miller art, very dope.

Peace,
I saw the film and was definately impressed by the unique cinematography. The cinematography is almost emotional, capitalizing on style and the ability to create a visceral impact through it (which I guess goes hand in hand with the stories). The visuals work as a vehicle for the story. Also sort of questions the "reality" myth of film.
The story operates in that noir crime flick type mode, exagerrated big time. Didn't get the sense that the characters were "real" but instead essences of the characters. Sort of stories about the small scraps of morality left in a decaying society, and the confusion and havok that can result. In that I found a commentary on present society, and how one should remember that one lives in psychological shackles here and now, since it can be very easy for some to lose the positive and become corrupted.
Also, the noir films were really popular back in the 40s and 50s, and by taking it to an extreme you get a better view of the concepts loved back then. Good flick, not for everybody though. Not really parody or homage, I saw more satire.
PEACE
