I believe that this film got mixed reviews, but in my mind's eye, this was a very thorough movie on all levels. The martial arts factor was very satisfactory (more on a "FIGHT CLUB" level, than any "CROUCHING TIGER" type that JET LI is used to doing). JET even takes to doing most of his stunts in this film, ala JACKIE CHAN. But it's the message that's driven home better than most martial arts films these days...... The issue of Western Civilization is explored between JET's character and his "master" in the film.....Ironically, we see JET's coming into self by way of a Blind Black man (MORGAN FREEMAN), using the arts and sciences that JET forgot, but as an individual as well as a social entity. It's also interesting how lies are told, and the power that they have to break a man's spirit......The full range emotions is also depicted, when a person goes through their journey of Enlightenment. The film is overly simplistic in execution, but both the entertainment and enlightenment (assuming the view is looking for both) is well achieved. Well worth the viewing. PEACE
