What is your understanding of lust? Whether from a spiritual, scientific, or cultural point of view?

Peace Tamahu Peace Kephrem. From what I'm beginning to understand; is that the overcoming of the aggregate of LUST, may be 'the-Foundation'(Yesod) for spiritual ascension. What I find to be quite interesting is that the first set of laws, in the 4 sets of laws that we Israelites are taught to live by, are, and which we are taught to learn to uphold, is, the MORAL LAW, which to me is the catalyst to "spiritual ascension". (the fact that man should have set laws on what is moral and what is not) In my experience, sex, with a woman, relieves any feeling that I myself can have of 'lust', but when a woman is not there (i.e. not being in a relationship) the overcoming of lust seems to be, or rather is, a great battle, that's why I made this topic to hear the peoples knowledge, wisdom, and understanding on the subject. Without question it's possible to seperate the two, in my opinion. PEACE

PEACE LMAO... of course it relieves your lust, because your cravings are satisfied... kinda like someone saying. "My lust for alcohol is relieved when im drunk, but when im not... its a great battle. my opinion is that lust is overcome by being able to find a sense of peace in one's self, being happy/ecstatic/content without the need of any specific external stimuli, and just plain WILL.... it seems that LUST is a natural drive, lower mind maybe, but natural none the less... i think some form of lust always exist, even if its lusting to be non-lustful Is it possible to seperate the two? i was gonna say yea... but now i wonder if there is any action whatsoever w/ out lust of some sort... even if its having the actual act of intercourse w/ no lust, it could be for the lust of money, as w/ a hooker

good answer contra
i think lust is very much a mental/psychological thing
i distinguish it from the "natural urge" of being "in heat" as we say about the animals fulfilling biological urges to reproduce
lust goes beyond the biological urge to the mental urge to desire stimuli to the sexual organs and other body parts perhaps, and it turns into fetishes and other things from something as small as liking a certain body type or tit-size or ass or whatever, to lusting certain sexual acts of perversion, some of which are very dirty.

This is an awesome build.....Thanx KEPH for creating this topic.
To my understanding, LUST is the epitome of uncontrolled, unbridled sexual urges.
It is one of the 4 DEVILS, and though it is deemed as the "least powerful" (because of where it is situated on the CHAKRAS), lesser men have been known to bo consumed by this demon at the very beginning of their spiritual ascension.
Emphatically, YES.
This is no different from separating GLUTTONY from the biological and spiritual need to consume food.
Both practices are done by acquiring knowledge (one's only true weapon) regarding why both practices are done, and acting in accordance with that knowledge.
However, while food consumption is pretty straight 4-ward (though most humans still fuck that up--go figure), sexuality is far more complex.....
Sex is THE most powerful act that we as physical, mental and spiritual creatures are blessed with the ability to engage in.
Because sex is the physiological tool for creativity (and I'm not just talking about reproduction either), it must be brought into perfect balance.
Homosexuality being the prime x-ample.
It should be understood, that while it's quite natural to be attracted to the physical aspect of sexuality, we should not be overwhelmed by it.
I'll add-on more later.
PEACE

Peace and much love for everything that was said in the above builds.
All I can say is that I believe that if we do not control our emotions, the emotions will control us. I believe lust can be suppressed, just like gluttony. The gustatory and sexual drives induce the strongest physiologic urges. Through meditation and yogic exercises, it is possible to re-direct sexual energies and contain them. If your essence is unshakable peace, then how can a mundane emotion affect it? It’s Nirvana.
In Peace,
I-Son

Just to add on,
I often thought that the word 'lust' has an affinity with the word 'lost' as in being 'lost in the senses', which would be sight, smell, taste, touch, hearing, and the 6th sense being instinct, (which are the basic instincts of a beast) or being trapped in the physical, and not being in the spirit/mind which is where one would 'find' themselves, or their true self, which is completion/perfection, represented, of course, by the number 7.

I am feeling this KEPH.
Lust originates in the animalistic aspects of our brains. By cultivating the Divine, we become immune to all sensual stimuli.
