Peace,
First and foremost, let me delve into this issue on a conventional astrologic level. This is a tough concept and it takes a while to understand it. I will try to be as practical and concise as possible for the sake of clarity.
OK…
Let me start by saying that the Earth has its axis (an imaginary line traveling vertically along the middle of the Earth) and it has its equator (an imaginary line traveling horizontally along the Earth’s middle).
The Earth circulates the sun in an orbital pattern called the ECLIPTIC. The ecliptic is the Earth’s 360 degree circular rotation around the Sun.
Atrononomers came up with the concept of the CELESTIAL EQUATOR which is an imaginary line extending along the Earth’s equator. It is basically the extension of the Earth’s equator onto the celestial bodies, stars and the universe.
It looks like this:
Thus, the blue circle on the above diagram represents the celestial equator (which once again is the extension of the Earth’s equator into the cosmos) and the yellow circle represents the ecliptic which is the rotational pattern of the Earth around the Sun.
Now, the points where the ecliptic and the celestial equator meet are called solstices and equinoxes. This is where the concept of seasons kicks in. See, in the winter time, the distance from the Earth to Sun remains the same (approximately 90 million KM) but because the Earth's orbit around the Sun is tilted at a 23.5 degree angle (basically the Earth’s orbit is slanted) the Sun’s ray’s must travel a longer distance to reach a particular hemisphere of the Earth. For instance:
Thereby, in the summer time the Sun’s rays hit the Northern Hemisphere of the Earth almost directly, however because the Earth’s rotational orbit around the Sun is slanted, at winter time the Sun’s ray’s reach the Earth at a loner distance. Like this:
As the Earth travels around the Sun, it is pointed towards different constellations:
This is where it gets tricky.
Hopefully by now you understand the concept of the CELESTIAL EQUATOR, the ECLIPTIC and the EQUINOX and SOLSTICE.
If not, you need to go over it a few times before you delve into this because you won’t be able to grasp the following concept.
Here we go...
The Earth IS NOT a perfect sphere. The distance of the Earth’s equator is not the same as the distance from the northern to the southern pole (within a perfect sphere, it should be). The vertical and horizontal equator should be of the same distance. This is due to the Sun and Moon’s gravitational pull on Earth. So at the equator the Sun and the Moon fundamentally stretch (very, very, very slightly) the Earth.
This is called a TIDAL FORCE (the gravitational pull of the Sun and Moon).
Because of this tidal force, the gravitational pull, it makes the Earth extremely slowly spin like this:
It takes the Earth 25,800 years to execute this motion. This motion is called a PRECESSION.
It looks like this if you were to stand at the North Pole and look directly up for 8000 years (notice the years at the lower, left corner):
The forthcoming is an illustrated sequence of the precession of the equinoxes:
figure 1: Let this illustration denote the current position of the Earth's celestial pole. Note that the north celestial pole would be pointing towards Polaris (the current north star).figure 2: After about 3233 years, the north celestial pole and the equinoxes have made a 45º CCW rotation around the precessional axis (a vertical passing through the Earth's center). Notice also that the north celestial pole would no longer be pointing at Polaris.figure 3: After a total of 6467 years have past, the north celestial pole and the equinoxes has a net rotation of 90º.figure 4: at around 9700 years, the north celestial pole and the equinoxes has rotated 135º around the axis of precession.figure 5: Now after 12,934 years, the north celestial pole and the equinoxes has made a 180 rotation.figure 6: So after a total of 25,878 years, the north celestial pole and the equinoxes has made one complete revolution around the precessional axis. Also, the north celestial pole is once again, pointing towards polaris. As this precession occurs throughout the 25.800 year period, the Earth's axis faces different astrologic constellations. The Earth points towards different constellation approximately every 2100 years. Currently we are in the FISH age and are about to enter the AQUARIUS age. Note that the Mayas’ calendar ends by the year 2012 and about the same time we will enter a different astrologic age!
We can build upon what we think this means if you want? Therefore, the Orion and Pyramid notion that you spoke about would correspond with the 25.800 year precession of the equinoxes. Meaning, the Orion Belt would align with the Pyramids every 25.800 years (according to my understanding).
That is essentially the astrologic breakdown. I am still very much perplexed by these concepts but nonetheless have some form of understanding of them so if you have a question I might be able to help out.
NOW…
Ancient astrology (Sumerian, Kemetian, Chinese) teaches that other celestial planetary bodies (ex. Mars, Venus) are correlated with different personality types (there is 7 in total). Also, keep in mind that there exist 7 CHAKRAS which again correspond with a planet (ask for details if you want them). Zodiac and Horoscope correspond with the date of birth and the celestial influence upon the personality type. Each personality type has a specific time of year so the influences are again related. Also, there is seven days in the week and I believe that each of those is governed by a specific planet as well (giving it its infuence). The Metu Neter also teaches that different foods correspond with different planets and days of the week. Therefore (for instance) it is wise to eat lettuce on Monday because a particular planet corresponds with the food and the day at the same time (they are in sync).
So, celestial influences were a significant aspect of ancient cosmology. Their astrologic system was very much holistic, they understood the science and spirituality of it.
Like I said, this is one mesmerizing idea.
I can delve into the details if you wish so but first tell me if you’re getting all this scientific madness?
In Peace
