Suffering is a choice. Consider, being strangled to death. Or asphyxiated or something. Everyone will say that its a horrible way to die. But, when you're accustomed to it, is it really so painful? I'd have to say that it isn't. The only pain involved, from my perspective, would be fear of death. The physical aspect doesn't bother me in the least. Lets up it a little. Consider burning to death. Most would agree that thats a fairly awful way to go. But consider the monk who set himself on fire but didn't show any pain. So really, the issue isn't suffering, but the mental state that one has that allows him TO suffer.

But the end result is the same. The only thing that makes one worse than the other is that one has a choice.

The only thing that makes one worse than the other is that one has a choice. which might be the crux of this entire discussion is suffering a matter of having your choices taken away from you?

Isn't that suffering under evil? it's having your choices taken away or limited by the actions of others, perhaps that relates to "being interrupted" on your list (which I like by the way). If there's a lack of choice for you or you've forgotten you have a choice then what's driving you is compulsion- you're not the Master. I think this is one of the underlying themes of suffering. "Being forced to" yes and also "feeling compelled to" what ya reckon? Let me know

"Being forced to" yes and also "feeling compelled to" what ya reckon? Let me know good points i guess ultimately (once again) it comes down to your views of death if you are in a situation where you 'disobey' the will of the wicked and your disobedience will result in death at that point i guess it is a matter of how comfortable you are with death or whether you are intimidated by the idea of death or if you are CONVINCED of the idea of death also how familiar you are with what death really implies so you always have a choice but with a fear of death your choices are subject to being very limited if you are afraid of death then all somebody has to do is set up a scenario where your actions could result in death and BOOM you are controlled and suffering the work of the devil no doubt

Sometimes I think the only spiritual practice is to understand death i.e. not be afraid of it
It is the only ting that obliterates all the bullshit. But then Mr Ego tells me "it can't be that easy" and the struggle starts again.
The Death ting can easily become another bullshit dogma as well coz truly we dont know what happens when we die. All I can do is imagine The Final Scene and what realisations I may have at that time. Making death the central theme has sometimes made me feel like I'm waiting to go on a long holiday or moving away, now that's somethin to be excited about not afraid of, maybe take-off could be a bit nerve-racking but hey once you're up you're up, it's about enjoying the ride I suppose.
But I got a feeling that this waiting doesnt truly stop, as long as the 'waiting' doesnt turn into a bored waiting. The quality of this waiting is an alert waiting, like a servant waiting for his master to come home
Anyway this might be a whole new topic. I have 'death' on the brain at the moment, need to file these thoughts properly
Peace for the reply LHX, please hit me up with more angles if u see them. That goes for everyone

Sacrifice? Suffering helps you appreciate the important things. or maybe - suffering lets you know what the important things are - at which point we can appreciate their importance
