in the midst of doing my seemingly annual re-visit of this book (if you want to call it a 'book')
it seems possible - almost likely - that this book was written in hindsight - sun tzu had already endured his war and was looking back in order to record his reflections on what took place
that being said it is may be useless to read when you find yourself in the thick of a 'war' and perhaps the art of war can only be understood in hindsight
and used at most as a reference for future situations
what may be interesting is to take the lessons from the art of war and compile a similar text directed at somebody in the midst of a war a practical 'guide' rather than a series of reflections
LHX - feeling slightly ambitious

also - like the tao te ching
there are some who claim that 'sun tzu' was actually a group of people rather than one person
