I start this weekend. Have match Saturday night at a local strip club. I decided to skip the nonsense and go straight for the full muay thai rules. Full contact kicks, punches, knees and padded elbows to the head, body and legs. Win by decision or knockout. I'm gonna be rocking the thai shorts and everything. Should be fun.

No, I don't actually. The full story on this is that a thai boxer from Florida was looking for a TKD guy at 155 to fight. I took him up on it provided he meant a sanctioned fight, but the promoter doesn't seem to keen on letting us fight. That being the case, I had two options. I could jet down to Florida and fight him there, or I can keep fighting and winning until the promoter respects my skills and gives me the fight I want. I want an actual record and ring experience so I'm gonna fight.

Damn O, this is dangerous man. I practice MUAY THAI (though not in a minute), and I don't even do "full contact" rules. Who is your opponent? PEACE

This guy named Derrick Shroeder or something like that. 2-3-1 or something.
Anyways, yeh, its dangerous. I'm not concerned though. If I can end the fight in round 2, Im good to go. Round three I'll likely get KOd, so Im gonna have to make this fast.

What's the dude's physical dimensions? Is he similar in size to you? If he's bigger, then I'm sorry to say, you'll be fighting an up-hill battle......At which point get "KO'ed" won't me getting "KNOCKED OUT", it might mean getting "KILLED OFF"....

The guy I had planned to fight was smaller actually. I won't be fighting him though. My uncle just died so I'm gonna need a bit of time.

Well, had my first fight. Lost in 1 min, 21 sec. My opponent was HUGE. Big Czech guy. He had about 12 pound on me and crazy reach. Everyone had been warning me about staying out of this guys clinch, so I said "Fuck it" and ran in there with the knees and elbows regardless. Everyone was like "OH SHIT! BLUE CORNER IS CRAZY!". I was beating the hell out of this guy. He was much bigger though and started throwing me across the ring. I popped back up anyways and got right back at it. What happened though is that I let him recompose himself and he got back on his game. He got in there with a nasty 1-2 combination that put me down. I was still conscious, but no way I was getting back up to fight.
Man, fighting is FUN. Yall should try it.

Still TKD and folkstyle. They'll hold up for sure. The fact that I beat down a thai boxer in the clinch says that I have what it takes to win. I just slipped up last night. I am about to start training harder though with muay thai rules, full contact.

I'm sorry to hear that you lost, O.
But I still think you would have fared better, if you followed my advice, which was pretty obvious in the earlier part of the match, from what I read.
Remember, fighting is a SCIENCE, as well as an ART.
Especially where MUAY THAI is concerned, you have to remain pragmatic about it.
Also, it seems that you let your Lower Self get the best of you, which is a no-no in martial arts.
There's a rhyme and reason to why most BUDDHISTS are very calm and stoic in their demeanor.
You would really do well to look into the more esoteric practices of the ARTS, and strive to apply them to your fighting.
PEACE

I was actually pretty calm. I didn't fight like it, but mentally it was like I was walking down the street. In this case my skills failed me. Didn't think to protect my head properly and I payed for it.

"Man, fighting is FUN. Yall should try it." I had my clavicle smashed against a curb in a streetfight with two cats in 2002, that wasn't fun...but I won, I had to have ORIF surgery and two screws put in it, I've since had them removed. Once I fought, or rather, was assaulted and fought back against two police officers who home invaded me without a warrant on account of a personal vendetta. My lawyer got the case they had against me thrown out on account of their entry without a warrant. This has been the only time in my life the Justice system worked for me. In 1997, I was almost killed in a driveby shooting in Harrison Township. One friend was shot in the head and died (god bless) and another was wounded in the thigh. I was the only one on the porch that wasn't shot, because I knew to DUCKDOWN! I can tell you time stood still. When I stood up a bullet hole was in the door at chest level right in front of me. After that I felt God had spared me and shown me a lesson, that violence is nothing to glorify and I should change my ways... Only one of the four in the car (two shooters) got charged with murder 2nd (he was black) degree, but he didn't kill Scott, the gun he used was a different caliber than the one that killed my friend. The real killer (a white kid, last name Eubanks) never spent a day in jail. The Police requested four warrants and only got three. The other shooters father was a State Trooper and he covered for his son. I testified in the trial (to get Justice for my Friend but Justice was fleeting and not to be found) I was the states key witness, I was the only eye witness to the WHOLE event, everyone else had gotten inside the house. You look back and think, If I had done this different or this, things may have not turned out the way they did, in tragedy; but I can't dwell on that. Iv'e lossed more than a handfull of friends to gunfire. I won't go into anymore detail atm but I hope you get my point... caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/data2/michiganstatecases/appeals/011201/9062.pdfIf you read the details of this case you will see the flaws, Burrell has strong grounds to have his conviction overturned. I once ran into the one who got away (months after the trial), We had words at a bar but It took all of Gods power to stop me from gutting him where he stood. I chose to leave instead of getting locked up. Iv'e been through alot a shit. I used to be a Black Gangster Disciple and was later blessed in to the Spanish Cobras of 22nd street Southwest Detroit. I am chill now, and try to be always on the Righteous side. I will fight if it is called for and needed. These days I mainly just box with friends to stay on point, Iv'e been a self teaching student of the martial arts and various fighting styles. I just got off probation and intend on never going back into the system. I was always the smart one in the clique, they would call me "Old Man" because I am Wise. Me being one of the few still here, is a testament to it. Peace

Interesting. The difference between the two of us is that I can't lose, while, under those circumstances anyways, you can't win.

Whatever the fuck that is supposed to mean bitch... I take it as an insult. If you said that to my face, you'd find yourself in worse shape than the slav left you in... He whipped your ass in a minute and half, sounds like you lost to me....

I lost in the eyes of others, yes. But in terms of learning valuable lessons about myself and the martial arts, I won. Fighting is the means, not the ends. As steel sharpens steel...
Plus I get paid regardless.
As for you, what do you gain? I don't know. But what do you lose? So much. Even if you "win", you lose so much.
