I’ve been digging around and have found much correlation and relevance in how the difference countries in power came to symbolize themselves thru heraldry with different signs/symbols representing their country’s history, achievements and essential being. We need to understand much of Europe started as scattered nomadic tribes who settled in their particular geographical area and eventually with time developed into more sophisticated societies. From the Mycenaean (ancient Greek), to the Latin (Roman, Italian) to Slavic (Russian, Polish, Czech) to Germanic to Frank to Spaniard tribes. As that growth of these people occurred and military, political and religious systems developed the nations incorporated the use of coat of arms and flags to differentiate, in a lot of cases, enemies in war and to have a single image which symbolizes that nation. It’s good to know which symbols were most prominently used and why these ones were used. There is a couple of symbols that I found are prevalent and common within the flag and coat of arms of different countries; these are: the cross, the eagle, the lion and the crown. For instance you find the cross in all the Nordic/Scandinavian and British countries' flags.
ENGLAND
DENMARK
SWEDEN
Of course this cross is a Christian symbol representing the death of Christ. Moreover, another important symbol very common among southern and eastern European countries is the double headed eagle i.e:
RUSSIA
ALBANIA
GERMANY CONFEDERATION
HOLY
ROMAN EMPIRE/BYZANTINE
AND THE SINGLE HEADED:
POLAND
the USA
The eagle was a symbol of freedom and providence, the double headed eagle in the original byzantine empire form represented the emperor's rule over both the east and west regions of his empire. It is important to notice it is Byzantine in nature! In Masonry it is a symbol of duality within man. We can see how the symbol was passed on to a lot of European nations and it's being used to this day, again Christian in nature. Another prominent symbol is the lion. Check these:
ENGLAND
FINLAND
NORWAY
CANADA
The Lion symbolized strength and military success and also the alleged descent from the hebrew tribes (??). The crown is common in the Nordic and British coat of arms and obviously represents the monarchic system. So as you can see a lot of the same nations used the same symbols. What's important to know is that these symbols (like the bird, the cross the lion) predate these countries and have been used by the non European ancients to represent numerous concepts, in a lot of cases spiritual in essence. Funny how these are the prominent symbols now and not the ancient symbols! It's also interesting how a lot of these symbols are used in masonry. The connection is clear! Also how the Roman Empire subliminally exists within a lot of the nations' fundamental symbols. I wrote this up as a summary of how Christianity has pasted itself into most European nations and, in come cases subliminally, continued on its legacy. It is also said that Vatican along with the Jesuits and The Order of Malta Knights are at the top of hierarchial masonic movements. Nordic and British people all have the same Germanic and Christian source. The world seems to be divided into nations but to the people in control borders are but illusions as we have a worldwide union of crooks these days who all represent the same thing - world domination. I did not mention any ancient meaneing of the symbols utilized within the European nations' symbols reason being I wanted to concentrate solely on this topic in the sense of the modern meaning and history of these symbols. To sum it up: if you want to know the source you have to trace the manifestations
Add on.
