derived from bible thread and the other thread i just posted about levels of understanding:
everybody has different perspectives that they are comfortable in and find themselves viewing their universe in most often -
in response to the bible thread and some of the other stuff ive been reading lately, i know i am not alone in saying that the bible has little if any stranglehold in the emerging progressive culture
to the point where i have little if any interest in discussing the plague it may or may not have cast upon this planet
from a metaphysical standpoint:
the bible is composed of words
words are symbols
symbols can represent fact, or symbols can represent imagination
when symbols represent imagination, but are delivered as fact - it results in a problem
the bible - presented to people as fact - is a problem
case closed
end of story
all the rest of the names, dates, historical impacts etc etc are of little significance
when i was little - moms used to keep track of my growth with pencil markings on the wall in the kitchen every so often
ie. "Mark - October 17, 1985, xx inches"
why?
it was a hobby
the accuracy of those markings is of no significance to me right now
nor is the date on which those measurements took place
even if that wall still existed - i wouldnt view those measurements as accurate
they would be approximations
i wouldnt view the dates as accurate - moms couldve been forgetful / read the calendar wrong / been drunk
and at this point in time - these types of measurements bear little use anyway - i dont even know how tall i am - and this ignorance has no affect on my contributions to the planet
the only significance that i am aware of is that i complete tasks that i commit to
i try to commit to tasks that result in progress mankind
in that other thread - i asked for a favor -
i asked for the study of history and these historical theories to be explained in a way that would help me be more effective at my ability to do my work
i dont want to discourage anybody from having these historical-esque discussions
but
i need to know:
is it a hobby?
or
is it something practical that can be put to use?
if it is something practical - then how do we account for all the potential fallacies in reporting?
can history ever be anything more than a theory?
there is no shame in hobbies
Peace
