In expanding upon the discussion from THIS THREAD:
According to the book WHEN GOD WAS A WOMAN, by MERLIN STONE ,
The peoples known as the "Hebrews/Hurrians/Hittites/Hapiru/etc" were not, by far, the spiritual, esoteric, God seeking, wholesome people that we in contemporary times have come to see them as.
In fact, they were extremely primitive, one-track-minded, carnal, savage and ignorant.
Historically speaking, they governed themselves by their lower, base impulses (greed, propensity for war, sexual desires, etc). I say "historically" because it needs to be understood that the "story" of the Hebrews in the Bible, in most cases, is a gross exaggeration (sometimes misinterpretation of the historical facts) of the actual historical account about them.
Their chief deity, YAHWEH, was actually a stolen deity from their conquest of the Canaanites, as is much of Jewish theology proper. In fact, though YAHWEH is is the chief deity for the Hebrews, YAHWEH was not the chief deity of the Canaanite pantheon from which he originated.
When examining the CANAANITE PANTHEON:
◦YAHWEH: Yahweh is added here because there was a short time in which He was simply part of the Canaanite pantheon. He was a Son of El; and he was part of the court of El as cupbearer along with Baal. Later, as the National God of Israel, Yahweh was equated with El, and Asherah became His wife.
It's also important to note, that ASHERAH was the deitess (Goddess) that, in the Bible, was slaughtered by YAHWEH, and Her Believers were killed, and Her Temples destroyed. They were consumed with destroying the Goddes aspect of spirituality, in as much as they were consumed with destroying the Afro-Asian peoples who worshipped Her.
Let it be understood also, that Asherah also corresponds to the Kemetic AUSET, and the Arabian ASTARTE.
All of this is important to understand, in order to glean the greater pathos of YAWHEH, from when he went from Loving Husband Deity, to bloodthirsty, war-mongering, vengeful "God".
Again, according to WGWAW, the term LEVITE has connotations that lead back to the term "LAVA". The author goes into great detail to demonstrate the linguistic pathos, as well as pointing out the Biblical allusions to such. Here are examples:
Direct exerpt from the book:
"The image of the god on the glowing mountain, the Indo-European image of their male deity, which also appears in th Hebrew imagery of the accounts of Mount Horeb, perhaps points to their ultimate connection as the one-time worshippers of volcanic mountains. In the Exodus account of the "mountain of God" (definition for HOREB), we read these descriptions:
Exd 19:16 On the morning of the third day there was thunder and lightning, with a thick cloud over the mountain, and a very loud trumpet blast. Everyone in the camp trembled.
And in Exodus 20:18-21,
Exd 20:18 When the people saw the thunder and lightning and heard the trumpet and saw the mountain in smoke, they trembled with fear. They stayed at a distance
Exd 20:19 and said to Moses, “Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do not have God speak to us or we will die.”
Exd 20:20 Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning.”
Exd 20:21 The people remained at a distance, while Moses approached the thick darkness where God was.
Later in Deuteronomy, when Moses was recounting the incidents that took place at "Horeb, mountain of God", he reminded the Hebrews:
Deu 4:10 Remember the day you stood before the Lord your God at Horeb, when he said to me, “Assemble the people before me to hear my words so that they may learn to revere me as long as they live in the land and may teach them to their children.”
Deu 4:11 You came near and stood at the foot of the mountain while it blazed with fire to the very heavens, with black clouds and deep darkness.
Deu 4:12 Then the Lord spoke to you out of the fire. You heard the sound of words but saw no form; there was only a voice.
Reminding them of the "pagan" calf, that they had made duringhis absence, he recalls:
Deu 9:21 Also I took that sinful thing of yours, the calf you had made, and burned it in the fire. Then I crushed it and ground it to powder as fine as dust and threw the dust into the torrent that flowed down the mountain.
Looking further into the Hebrew Bible, we find,
Psa 11:6 On the wicked he will rain fiery coals and burning sulfur; a scorching wind will be their lot.
Psa 50:3 Our God comes and will not be silent; a fire devours before him, and around him a tempest rages.
Psa 50:4 He summons the heavens above, and the earth, that he may judge his people:
Psa 89:46 How long, O Lord? Will you hide yourself forever? How long will your wrath burn like fire?
Psa 97:1 The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice.
Psa 97:2 Clouds and thick darkness surround him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.
Psa 97:3 Fire goes before him and consumes his foes on every side.
Psa 97:4 His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles.
Psa 97:5 The mountains melt like wax before the Lord, before the Lord of all the earth.
Psa 105:39 He spread out a cloud as a covering, and a fire to give light at night.
Surely the most vivid description of YAHWEH as a volcanic mountain occurs in Psalms 18. Here we read:
Psa 18:2 The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
Psa 18:3 I call to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies.
Psa 18:4 The cords of death entangled me; the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me.
Psa 18:5 The cords of the grave coiled around me; the snares of death confronted me.
Psa 18:6 In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.
Psa 18:7 The earth trembled and quaked, and the foundations of the mountains shook; they trembled because he was angry.
Psa 18:8 Smoke rose from his nostrils; consuming fire came from his mouth, burning coals blazed out of it.
Psa 18:9 He parted the heavens and came down; dark clouds were under his feet.
Psa 18:10 He mounted the cherubim and flew; he soared on the wings of the wind.
Psa 18:11 He made darkness his covering, his canopy around him—the dark rain clouds of the sky.
Psa 18:12 Out of the brightness of his presence clouds advanced, with hailstones and bolts of lightning.
Psa 18:13 The Lord thundered from heaven; the voice of the Most High resounded.
Psa 18:14 He shot his arrows and scattered the enemies, great bolts of lightning and routed them.
Psa 18:15 The valleys of the sea were exposed and the foundations of the earth laid bare at your rebuke, O Lord,
at the blast of breath from your nostrils.
We may also find it significant that the mountain north of Lake Van, in the land once known as Urartu, known as Mount Suphan even today, is a volcanic mountain. In Cilicia, in the Kizzuwatna territory of the Luvians there are two volcanic mountains. [book footnote: "On of these, today known as Hasan Dag, has two volcanic peaks, perhaps explaining why the Hittite Storm God and the Hittite King were often portrayed standing upon a double-crested mountain, a foot upon each summit.] In the Caucasus region just to the South, once again in the land of Urartu, there are no less than THIRTEEN volcanic mountains, three still active today. One is located near Baku on the Caspian Seam close to the mouth of the Araks river. It might be pertinent to note that in the Greek Legen of the battle between Zeus and the serpent Typhon, Typhon (the storm bringer) was born in a mountain cave in Cilicia where he was first attacked by Zeus, later battled with Zeus on Mount Casius (Saphon) and was finally killed by Zeus on the volcanic Mount Etna in Sicily. But it may be most significant that just to the east of Sinai in Arabia [SAM36's note: bearing in mind this locale, as the land of Sodom and Gomorrah was allegedly located there as well.. Lest we forget, that S&G was destroyed via "fire and brimstone"?] we find a string of volcanic mountains, now extinct, all along the western coast facing Egypt, and that Mount Ararat itself, is volcanic.
The worship of the Indo-European and Hebrew gods as volcanic mountains may explain they great importance of the fire rituals amoung both the Brahmins and the Levites. It may also explain the name of YAHWEH, so long a puzzle to Bible scholars who have hunted for the meaning in Semitic texts and cultures, for the word YAHVEH in Sanskrit means "overflowing", so suggestive of the lava ("glowing redness" in Sanskrit) of volcanic eruption; it may even be related to the word lava itself.

I'm sure that this might seem so far-fetched for most of you.. Consider the fact that much of ancient mythology and theology is based upon assigning "deities" to forces of nature. Volcanoes are the base element of Tetrahedron (the 4 Elements), reprsenting the fire element, from Earth (quakes), Wind (Tornadoes), And Water (Hurricanes).
Further stated in MERLIN STONE's book:
"To gain a clear picture of the times, it is important to realize that volcanic mountains often erupt many times over a relatively short period. Mount Kilauea on Hawaii has erupted over two dozen times during the last 20 years. (Incidentally, this volcano is worshipped as the Goddess Pele). Even today the surviving Zoroastrians of Iran still pray to fire [SAM36's note: In Islam, making salaat means to "raise the fire".], which in the Kurdish territories, partially in the land that was once Urartu, fires are lit on the mountain tops at New Year's celebrations."
Granted, many ancient spiritual systems, such as those from the Kemetians, Chinese, etc had both mundane (exoteric) as well as higher (esoteric) aspects to them, however, one must continue to take into consideration the mindset of the peoples that created such theologies and their mutli-faceted aspects.
I feel that we spend far too much time trying to dig for "higher truth" from the Bible, when it is clear that the authors of it were far from capable of it. The Hebrews (or whatever they were called) demonstrated both within their Biblical texts, as well as outside of them in actual history, to be far less than capable of higher thinking.
Thus, to look for higher wisdom from them, would be like looking for a "Handy-Man" type retard to become a nuclear physicist in modern day times.
Consider the FACT that while the Kemetians, Chinese and others were building complex architecture, performing medicine, science, etc as tesmony to the wisdom that the Divine bestowed upon them, the "Hebrews" historically built absolutely NOTHING. The places attributed to them (such as "Solomon's Temple", the "Walls of Jericho", etc) were places that they had "discovered" when they invaded and sacked foreign lands... Places that stood in ruins because of them, and not in spite.
They created no Spiritual systems; the "God" they worshipped was never theres to begin with. In fact, the words they used to describe their God, and its entire language, was never theirs. So-Called Hebrew language is nothing but Urgaritic (Canaanite) langauge, as is the entire base level of "Hebrew" culture.
"Hebrew" Kabbala is actually the Canaanite spiritual system (akin to Kemetic Metu Neter) masquerading as Jewish Esoterum.
Thus, when we strip all of this away from them, we find the truth standing clear: a fearful, superstitious, ignorant people worshipping the only "god" that they are capable of understanding: a deity of anger, vengeance, chaos, destruction, violence...
A God of "Fire and Brimstone".
