Watching this movie now. Quite good. One thing is a problem though. The portrayal of the Irish as friends of the blacks. The Dead Rabbits in this film are an Irish gang fighting for the immigrant community. Including blacks. However, its a known fact that the Irish used white supremecy, among other institutions in the white community, to become white themselves. In this film, the protagonist is sympathetic towards blacks as the villain is violently racist. The draft riots are protrayed as being merely about Irish oppression and civil rights as opposed to their own hatred of blacks.
