Can you provide your own perception of this? How do you apply this onto the trigrams and hexagrams?

Why do you think obstruction would be structured as Earth below Heaven and balance as Heaven below Earth?

Ra Un Nefer Amen teaches that a trigram is comprised of three lines: the upper one represents heaven, the middle represent man and the lower represents earth.

Meaning that the I-Ching is a book of how man should interact with the earthly (below, yin) and heavenly (above, yang) influences. Man is the mediator!

In the hexagram, the upper trigram is symbolic of heaven and the lower of earth.

How do you cee all this???

this is a perfect example of why i dont really trust translators or stick to any one translation

you can call hex 11 'tranquility' or 'peace' when you assess the hexagram from a 'snapshot' perspective

knowing full well that the situation is going to change

the prospect of 'tranquility' comes from the fact that the environment is receptive (the upper trigram) when the inner trigram is creative or strong

there is no contention



the reason why hex 12 is 'obstruction' or 'interruption' has a lot to do with the context of the hexagram

in this hexagram we see that the situation has changed

the 'tranquility' has ended and from the standpoint of the inner trigram - it is the outer trigram which is now dominant - strong - creative

while the inner trigram is in a state of receptiveness

remember that tho the symbols are the same

a trigram carries a subtly different meaning when it is on the top vs when it is on the bottom

Three solid lines were used to symbolize sky. The sky is strong and has divine power to provide infinite space to accommodate all. Using three solid lines to represent the sky is very the appropriate for its supreme being.

A solid line in between two broken lines symbolize water. The two broken lines represent the depression of earth (river banks). The solid line in the middle represents motion. This creates the image of water flowing in a river. In addition, this kua also represents the moon.

A broken line inbetween two solid lines symbolize fire. The two solid lines indicate the movement of fire. The broken line is the center of the fire which is still. In addition, this kua also represents the Sun.

7. Mountain

A solid line on top of two broken lines symbolize mountain. The solid line represents elevation and the bottom two broken lines represent earth. Thus this image is a mountain elevated above the earth.

8. Marsh

A broken line on top of two solid lines symbolize marsh. The top broken line is water and the bottom two solid lines is sky. If we are looking down at a body of water anywhere on earth, we will see the reflected sky below the water surface. This seems to be a logical way to symbolize the Marsh Kua.

knowing the individual trigrams is the most important thing

a hexagram is not 6 lines


it is 2 trigrams

i have another diagram that i have been working on that i gotta show you


those interpretations are decent

not spectacular but they are decent

they get you going in the right direction

(but they seem a little too definite)



it is like nobody wants to admit that what they are giving you are metaphors

when i read something like
"The two solid lines represent the sky and energy."
it makes me cringe

the two solid lines in 'wind' do NOT represent sky and energy

'wind' is a metaphor in the first place
so in that context - one could imagine that the two solid lines represent 'sky and energy'


if you decide to call the trigram 'born' you could say the broken line at the bottom represents the womb
the middle line represents the hands grasping at the wombs opening
and the top line represents the fact that the baby has torn its way out


so yeah - those interpretations are decent
but maybe a bit misleading

majors and minors?

do you mean when people interpret lines 2 3 and 4 as a trigram
and then
lines 3 4 and 5 as another trigram?

thats just another way of interpreting

just like how you can interpret lines 2 and 5 to mean something if they are different
or you can see lines 3 and 4 as 'inner' lines


there really is no limit to how many different ways you can extract wisdom from the i ching once you are familiar with it


but i would not really advise looking into that type of stuff too much


upper trigram
lower trigram

and the pattern of 64

that is the foundation


after that - you can get into line changes and all the other interpretations

to be honest tho - the interpretations that i found most helpful were

knowledge
wisdom
understanding
freedom
refinement
equality
build/destroy
born

take your understandings of those and apply them to the trigrams



i havent been working on my own too much lately

but i always keep it in mind
